The tropical waters of the Caribbean are a thrilling playground for Anglers, housing various sought-after species. Xcalax’s tropical waters, in particular, are home to the elusive and thrilling ‘ghosts of the flats’-the Bonefish. Their agile speed, torpedo-like body shape, and camouflage make them a challenging yet exhilarating catch. Their deeply elusive nature and difficulty locating them have made them a popular fish for fly fishing. These unique attributes earned them the nickname’ ghosts of the flats… making Bonefish a thrilling fly fishing species that ignites excitement and anticipation among anglers as they embark on the chase.

The perfect target species for fly fishing

With the proper casting techniques and distances, it’s possible to intercept and hook them in their path, giving anglers confidence and capability. When hooked, these fish streak across the flats with breathtaking velocity. The distance and accuracy of each required cast make it an excellent fish for both the seasoned veteran and the new Angler to go after. Bonefishing is not just a thrilling experience, but also a great opportunity to learn and improve your casting skills. Having the right gear is not just essential; it’s your ticket to feeling prepared and ready. We highly recommend using a 7-8 weight rod with a floating line and a 12-16 lb fluorocarbon leader.
